Today the 8th - 16th regiments live on through our
group of reenactors, some of us descendants of the men who served in the original regiments. We are dedicated to the accurate
representation of the original regiments. Though our backgrounds, ages and vocations are diverse, we are bonded together by
a deep mutual interest in and respect for the deeds of those whom we represent. The Civil War era is a rich vein to mine . . . a drummer investigates drum
call and cadences . . . a cook tries an original recipe . . . a private assembles a uniform to match that of his great-great
grandfather in an old photo. From hours of research; trips to battlefields and graveyards; from talking to visitors at living
history encampments, we come by our knowledge. We all share in the joy that comes with new information. Though we can never experience what these men actually endured, we can
better appreciate what they went through by "walking a mile in their shoes." It is, beyond measure, a rewarding thing to do.
